👑 Matthew Lewis on Richard III

Why you might like this: If you are into British history, kings and queens, or if you enjoy Shakespeare's plays, this talk will be perfect for you.
About the event: King Richard III is famous for being a terrible "bad guy" in British history. In William Shakespeare's famous play, Richard is shown as a monster. Many people believe he even killed his own young nephews (the "Princes in the Tower") just so he could become king. But is that really the true story?
The Richard III Society has studied his life for over a hundred years, and they think he might have actually been a good leader who made fair laws for the people. Matthew Lewis is an expert on this time period. He writes history books and makes popular historical podcasts. He will help us understand who the real Richard III was and answer all your questions about whether Richard was a cruel murderer or a misunderstood king.Attendees are warmly invited to a drink after the talk!

Why you might like this: This event is great for anyone who is into modern politics, government reform, or seeing how the UK compares to Germany when it comes to running a country.
About the event: The brand-new British government wants to completely change how the country is run. They want to fix systems that feel broken. There is a special think-tank group called The Future Governance Forum that has been coming up with big ideas for these changes since 2023. Interestingly, some of their ideas are very similar to things that German foundations have suggested for the German government. We will hear from Adam Terry, who works on these new British plans, and Professor Helmut K. Anheier, who will share his thoughts from a German perspective. It will be a really interesting look at how different countries try to fix their governments.

🌍 Delegitimizing Civil Society: Global Perspectives (Online)Date & Time: Thursday, 29 October 2026 from 13:00 to 14:30 CET

Why you might like this: If you care about human rights, global democracy, or how charities and activist groups survive in difficult times, you should definitely join this one.
About the event: All over the world, independent groups that help people and stand up for rights (often called "civil society" or NGOs) are being attacked. Sometimes, politicians try to make these groups look like enemies or troublemakers to stop them from doing their work. This makes it very hard for them to speak freely and protest safely.This problem is not just happening in dictatorships; we are seeing it in normal democracies too. In this online meeting,experts from Uganda, Egypt, the UK, Israel, and the US will talk about why this is happening. They will also discuss what we can all do to protect these groups and keep our democracies safe.

About the event: The famous writer and journalist John Kampfner has written a new book called "Braver New World".For this book, he travelled to different places to find out how Europe can look forward to a bright and successful future.He will be talking with Dominic Fritz, who is the mayor of a city in Romania called Timișoara. Together, they will discuss where Europe can find the courage and optimism it needs for the years ahead. After the talk, you can stay and chat with the speakers and other guests.(Please note: This is an in-person event in Berlin and registration is required).
